Livingstone International Regatta Shooting Challenge

Was held at the African Horizons Sporting Guns Shooting Site at Victoria Falls, Livingstone Zambia on the afternoon of Wednesday 12th September 2007. The visiting International rowing teams were invited to attend the sponsored shoot and field a team of 4 participants from their respective rowing teams.

From the ladies we had 4 teams of 4 shooters from Oxford, Cambridge, South Africa and Friends of Zimbabwe, and from the men we had 4 teams of 4 shooters from Oxford, Cambridge, Browns University USA and Friends of Zimbabwe.

It was established that the majority of competitors had never fired a shotgun before, which made for a fairly even competition. The ladies teams started, and it became clear by the end of their session that we had a couple of outstanding shots in Julia Parker from Cambridge and Anna Heimbichner from Friends of Zimbabwe. The mens teams then took their turn, and finished shooting just as the sun set over the grounds.

Both the ladies and mens teams then returned to the main building where they were joined by the rest of their rowing team members who had turned up to cheer them on and enjoy the evening meal supplied by Sporting Guns. Before the meal was served the trophies were presented to the winners who were:

  • First Place – Oxford Mens Team – 51 points
  • Second Place – South Africa Ladies Team – 34 points
  • Third Place – Browns University USA Mens Team – 31 points

A Best Female Shot award was presented to Anna Heimbichner for her outstanding overall shooting, but Julia Parker deserves a mention  for her 1st time shooting ability as well. The meal was served and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day, so much so, that a number of the competitors booked to come up and do some more shooting on their one day off the following week.
